Mapping 6,453 Continuous Feet of Pipe

case-study.png

The Bois D’Arc Lake is an ongoing man-made reservoir project, located in Bonham, TX. It was proposed and designed to be a new source of water for residents and businesses of the North Texas Municipal Water District. Not only that, it would be used for recreational purposes, such as boating, fishing and picnics. It is an impressive project and the completed lake will be 16,641 acres large.

Now, there was a critical issue that needed to be addressed. When the project began, the landscape of the site of the project was part bog, part cattle pasture and part archaeological site of historical artifacts. Underneath all of this lay 6,453 continuous feet of gas pipe. Since all of this pipeline would be under over 40 feet of water, additional work needed to be done to protect the future integrity of the pipeline. This meant that the entire length of the pipeline needed to be mapped.

Working with Our Partner, Lynx Mapping, LLC

Lynx Mapping was aware of the challenges. Prior to this project, the longest continuous mapping run recorded by Lynx Mapping was approximately 3.300 feet. With such a big scope of work, Lynx knew that they needed a robust solution to tackle this.

The Lynx Mapping team consulted with the experts at PRISUM on the project. After thoroughly examining the needs of the mapping work, PRISUM offered its DR4 Mapping Tool and a reel on each end of the pipeline. In 6 hours, on-site, the team successfully mapped the continuous pipe with five runs while staying well within acceptable variance levels. Only one set of batteries was required.

Now, with such a record under their belt, Lynx Mapping can now confidently bid for long mapping runs. This is an edge that PRISUM offers.
